How to apply for "The Amazing Race"

Applications have supposedly closed for The Amazing Race 7 , to be filmed starting in late 2004. Keep your eyes peeled for race flags, and watch for pairs of people running through airports along with camera crews if you are travelling during October-December 2004. (If you get pictures of the racers or the race, please send them to me. I can publish them with or without identifying you, as you choose.)

If you missed the official application deadline for the next season, but want to participate (and if you are a citizen of the USA — the producers still haven’t changed their rule that, “No Canadians or other ‘foreigners’ need apply”, and I don’t make the rules), I’d send in an application anyway: many of the cast members in previous seasons of the race have been selected outside the publicly-announced applications and auditions, and some applications have been held over from one season to another.

Yes, the only application now available says it is for “The Amazing Race 7”, but I would send it in anyway. I assume that if the producers and casting directors like your application, they will consider it for future seasons, as they have done in the past, regardless of what the application says.

The application form and instructions are on the CBS Web site for The Amazing Race .

If you want to know what to include in your audition videotape, check out the audition tapes from the teams that were selected for The Amazing Race 3 on the CBS Web site — click on the “Teams” tab, then click on each team for a page including a link to their audition video. That was the only season of The Amazing Race for which the audition tapes were made public.

And don’t forget that you don’t have to get picked to be in the cast of a reality television show to take a trip around the world — you can always do it yourself .

Good luck, and “Bon Voyage”!

[Addendum, 9 December 2004: There has still been no official announcement of an application or schedule for “The Amazing Race 8” or any later season. But judging from some of the comments, it looks like some readers haven’t understood my advice. Here’s what I recommend you do now, if you want to apply: (1) Download the application form for “The Amazing Race 7” or whatever season is available. (2) Fill it out, following the instructions on the CBS Web site (except for ignoring the deadlines). (3) Send it in to the producers. Don’t wait. Ignore the fact that the application says it is for “The Amazing Race 7” or any other season. Ignore the deadline for “The Amazing Race 7”, which is long past, or any other “deadlines”. Send your application in, now, anyway. I can’t guarantee that this will work, but based on what has happened in the casting for previous seasons, I believe that these applications will be considered. If you wait, you might miss the window of opportunity when CBS orders another season and a new “deadline” is announced.]

[Further addendum, 8 February 2005: CBS-TV and the producers of “The Amazing Race” have announced that “The Amazing Race 8” will be for teams of 4 people (with a prior relationship to each other), instead of 2. They seem particularly interested in getting family teams, but I suspect that more of the applications will be from groups of friends. The application has been revised to call for teams of 4, but (1) the application and eligibility forms say explicitly that applications may be held over from one season to another, and teams of 2 that applied earlier may still be considered (and, presumably, invited to find 2 more teammates), (2) “The Amazing Race 9” is likely to revert to teams of 2, and (3) the producers can do anything they think will attract more viewers — there are government rules for the fair conduct of “game shows” that apply to competitive reality-TV programs, but these rules don’t apply to the selection of cast members/contestants. So if you are interested, I would still go ahead and apply, using whatever form is available, as early as possible, regardless of whether you have a team of 2 or 4.]

[Further addendum, 10 May 2009: The CBS Web site has been changed again. There are also occasional and unpredictable casting calls where local TV stations will film your audition video on site, but you will still need to complete the application form. My advice remains the same as always: fill out the application and send it in with your audition video whenever you are ready, regardless of any “deadlines” or which series number is on the application. The producers can, and do, keep applications on file for later seasons if they like them, and invite people to appear on the show outside the public open application process. They aren’t bound by any of their self-imposed “deadlines” or most of their “rules”. If you have trouble downloading the application forms from the CBS Web site, the new mailing address for applications is: The Amazing Race Casting, 200 North Continental Blvd., 2nd floor, El Segundo, CA 90245, USA. If you have any comments on the eligibility criteria (such as the rule permitting only citizens of the USA), you can address them to the production companies (World Race Productions, Inc. and Amazing Race Productions Inc.) at the same address. Please remember that I don’t produce the show and or make the “rules”.]

[Further addendum, 18 May 2013: To answer some commenters’ questions: The application process is still essentially similar. The forms may have changed, so check the official CBS site for the current forms. The main thing to keep in mind is that the sole criterion for casting the show is which pairs of cast members will maximize revenues. Getting on the show is not a “contest”, it’s a business decision made by professional casting directors. Whether they think you are likely to win is irrelevant. as far as advice for someone who has been cast in the show, and is preparing for the race, that’s a completely different question. What will help you get picked to be in the cast, and what will help you win the race, are completely independent. My columns about The Amazing Race are more directed to lessons for ordinary travellers than to people trying to win a race, but many of them, and my book, would also be useful to people preparing for the race. Many of the racers have read my columns and my book, and found them useful in their preparation. If you are selected for the cast, and are allowed to talk to me at that point as part of your preparation, I would be interested in hearing from you. I’ve talked to potential contestants before they applied, and to cast members after the race, but not yet to someone who has been selected for the cast, but hasn’t yet run the race. I might consider taking on a job as a training consultant to a team, but I haven’t yet gotten such an offer to have to decide if I would take it. Good luck, bon voyage, and remember that you don’t have to be cast in a TV show to take a trip around the world!]

[Further addendum, 6 March 2015 (more here in a follow-up article): There is a now a dedicated Web site for casting for all future seasons of “The Amazing Race” at As had already been the case in practice, it’s now official that applications are being accepted year-round, on a rolling basis, without regard to any particular deadlines for specific seasons. Applications (including uploaded video) are now being accepted online rather than by mail, so I don’t know if the postal address above is still valid. There are also open casting calls, mostly advertised by local CBS affiliate TV stations, although not all of them are listed on the casting Web site. Applications are being accepted from singles as well as couples, so you can apply by yourself if you are open to having the TV producers pick a race partner for you.]

I was a finalist for Amazing Race 3 and 4 with my daughter. We came close to being cast, but didn't make the final cut:( I have 3 boys as well and my older son is now 21 and would like to apply for The Amazing Race with me. There have not been any "Mother/Son" teams and we would like to know if you get a lead on applications/casting for Amazing Race 8. If you hear of any news for the 8th season, please email me the info. I would sure appreciate it:)

I'll post any news here. But, as I said in my original posting, I'd encourage people who are interested to submit an application anyway, regardless of the official starting or ending dates for applications.

WE WILL BE ON AMAZING RACE 8! It's been awhile since they have had a humorous duo on the show and we are the comic relief that America needs! My co-worker and I are interested in applying. He and I are just the spice they need on the show! By spice we mean, he is tall african american fellow(to be PC, but he is a "big black guy")-Eddie calls himself "chocolate" (okay, okay "sexual chocolate") and I am a short spitfire latina- "the cinnamon" or "salsa" in the mix! We are both college graduates and work with at-risk teens. We have been talking to people about our interest and already have an eager fan base. Let us at those other teams!! Grrrrr... We will be nothing like this show has ever seen!!
Please keep me updated through your site on a time line in which we have to apply since we missed deadline for "7". Thanks. You'll be seein'more of us!

I think it's asinine that they won't let anyone outside of US citizens participate. Of all the reality shows on TV these days, you'd think that this would be the one that would allow others to enter - it is a race around the WORLD after all, not a race around the US!!

Posted by: ALI, 20 October 2004, 15:24 ( 3:24 PM)

I'm a mother of 2 boys who is 4 and 1. Me and my fiance just hade a hose fire about 6 months ago and lost everything and are trying to build back up. watching this last race we decided to try and make the next race so if any news about that race please let me know.

Anyone know if CBS plans to release previous editions of Amazing Race on DVD?

Posted by: Kara, 29 October 2004, 09:20 ( 9:20 AM)

You suggest that we apply for number 8 anyway? I thought we had to send in the corresponding application to the race. The applications are not all the same. Some questions are worded differently and are not in the same arrangement. If it really doesn't matter I would be thrilled, because it seems I keep missing the date. Thanks for your input :)

If anyone has information on when registration for Amazing Race 8 is taking place could send me a email. If i'm too late then info on Amazing 9 would be great appreciated thanks

Posted by: mitchell, 30 October 2004, 14:14 ( 2:14 PM)

I have always been watching The Amazing Race every episodes. I wish that they will let non-US citizens participate the race one day soon! Or what about the special episode for the non US citizens who have good English skill!!! The interview could help! Well, I'm one of them. That'll be wonderful. I'm looking forward to it. Thanks.

So am I understanding this right? We can use the episode 7 application for 8 now, and the producers will accept it for the next season? What other races with partners, traveling, sporting events and strategies are there to sign up for? Thanks for any advice.

WASUP AMAZING RACE!!!!!! Larry and Myself (Larry being one of my best friends and im Damien) been tring to figure out how to apply for the amazing race for the last 4 seasons!! How does this title for our team sound?, DAMIEN & LARRY (BOYS FROM THE HOOD)!! HUH! HUH! I KNEW YOU'D LIKE THAT! I know for a fact, we'd Rock the Show!! I am very interested in applying for Amazing Race 8 with my principal. Has there been a teacher/principal team yet? I think not....We are so devoted to the show and think that we have what it takes to make it!! We missed the application deadline for the Amazing Race 7 and I want to be sure we don't miss the next one. Any word when this application process will happen? Please let me know!!!

Posted by: Jennifer Horton, 2 November 2004, 15:13 ( 3:13 PM)

I have been applying to be on the Amazing race sense the first season, and I will continue to apply until I run out of partners or until, God Forbid, the show does not come on anymore. I am going to try to enter Amazing Race with my boyfriend, we are interacial dating parents. I know from watching the show there has been nothing like us. My partner has a heart condition and fights through it to play sports and work and is an inspiration. He is also honery and difficult, and would make for some interesting TV. I can't wait to send my next application so I am going to get the early jump on this one.

Just another one who would like to be in on when to apply to TAR 8.
Any pointers from alumni who have been on the show. And on what they look for when applying and trying out?

I am going to be checking all web sites daily so I get our application and videos in for Race #8 or #9! My husband of almost 14 years and I would be the most bleeped out couple in the history of the Amazing Race! We are both very competative, but very funny....and I am dyslexic! So map reading under pressure, or driving on different sides of the road in different sides of cars would be a riot!I can see us looking for a divorce lawyer somewhere in the frozen Russian tundra! I LOVE this show!!

This is driving me crazy! When the heck are they going to poast the next application date. I know "Bob" at the top of the page says to send it in ant time. But i will wait for the next date. My buddy and I are both farmers so herding goats and driving tractors will be no problem.

Posted by: thrill, 16 November 2004, 20:47 ( 8:47 PM)

I think that Canadians should be allowed on the show! I am actually a US citizen born and partially raised there but then came to Canada, but I did go back for University. So really....... I embody the best of both countries!!! I'm even trying to convince my boyfriend he should marry me just so he can get a Green card and we can go on the show! If they ever reconsider we would be great...... Please stop punishing your Northern friends AYE!

Hi! I have two potential team mates! I have my brother and my sister-in-law. They're both great because they both love me!! so I was thinking maybe I could apply with both of them. Can I get disqualified for applying twice with different partners for the same show?
I'm dying to apply for The Amazing Race, am I still on time for the 8th? or at least start preparing myself for the 9th? HELP!!! when will they be casting for either of them?

Posted by: Brenda, 17 November 2004, 09:30 ( 9:30 AM)

My buddy and I are Canadian citizens and are very interested in applying for either the 8th or 9th episode. Will we be waisting our time due to our citizenship? We would be a great addition to the show because we are comedians at heart and Impovation actores on stage. Please let us know how to apply or will the application form for the AmazingRrace 7 work?

Posted by: A.J., 17 November 2004, 10:01 (10:01 AM)

It's really too bad they accept applications only from U.S. citizens. We're from Canada... and it's a real shame that we don't even qualify to even be allowed to apply... even though we're huge fans of the show and have caught every single episode since it started... and have spread the fan base here.

Posted by: Korin Yoshida, 17 November 2004, 15:26 ( 3:26 PM)

Hey, my best friend and i are dying to apply for the amazing race 8...she finally is going to turn 21 and will be able to qualify. Could someone also send me information about when to apply and also the deadline? we just missed this last one by a week. . I've got the application for #7 but i'm sure i'll have to print a new one out for #8. Please someone, hook me up and let me know! Thanks.

Posted by: leby, 18 November 2004, 16:40 ( 4:40 PM)

Ok, my girlfriend and I are ready to compete in Amazing race 8! I can't believe we missed the deadline for #7. No matter, more time for us to prepare. We're both very competitive and are an awesome team. I'm in my mid 30's and in the best shape of my life. My baby, well let's just say she's a little younger than I and is phenominal shape too. We look forward to whipping some of you who make the cut...:-) Remember, it's a marathon~not a sprint~you don't always have to finish first, just not LAST!

Posted by: Michael, 18 November 2004, 17:38 ( 5:38 PM)

My buddy Todd and I will not only be competing but winning Amazing Race 8. We are two old college buddies who now live in different states and this would be a great time for us to spend some time together running all over the world. We are casting ourselves as the diabetic and his blind friend because I am legally blind in one eye. We are both in our mid 20's and in tip top shape. We will definitely get the most laughs because that is the type of people we are. Hope you will see our mugs on the tube soon.

I have been a die hard fan of TAR since the very first season!! I have wanted to apply so many times. I keep telling my husband that we can do it!! He's pretty reserved!! I'm a little CRAZY! or is that just PASSIONATE!! Can you say Johnathan and Victoria?:-) Just kidding, we're not that bad. Anyways, we have 2 kids and I would just love for both of them to see that you can do whatever you set your mind to do. Plus, I want to do it because my husband and I really don't see very much of eachother and I thought this would really help us to relearn eachother and for him to see what I am really made of!! I have printed out the apps from season 7. I'm gonna give it a shot. Wish us luck!! See you all in the starting city. Gotta go now. Our show will be on in 30 minutes!!

I can't believe I missed the application process by such a short time frame! I have been trying to find out information on applying to this show for three years!!! I have been telling my brother that I was going to find out and we were signing up for it!!! So far, every detour and/or road block I've seen looks like it would be an absolute blast!!!!!!!!! I think the only major thing we would fight over would be who GOT to do it! Good luck everyone!!

I crazy about the amazing race. I recently talked to my brother in law who is also crazy about the race. Unfortunately he wont be able to team up with my sister because she is scared of flying. Well in any event we would love to team up and be a part of the Amzaing Race's 8th season. Please let me know when the application process starts.

Do you know when they might publically announce that they are accepting applications for TAR 8? The only application I can download is titled "The Amazing Race 7", so don't want to use that one.

Is the amazing race 8 application up yet or does anyone know when it will be up.

This is pretty confusing. We all really want to be on a future Amazing Race but I'm not seeing any clear answer as to how we do so. I'm guessing it is too late to apply for Amazing Race 8? I'm going to go back to to see if there is someone to contact.

How do I apply for tar 8? I downloaded the application for 7 and filled it out, but I am not sure if it is a good idea to send it in now.

I need to know if is a good idea to send in the application for TAR7 even though we are wanting to get on TAR8. If anybody knows please email me back.

When will you let us know when Amazing 8 application will come in because I am ready to beat ALL of you guys that want to apply for this.

I can not wait to apply for TAR 8. My friend and I have missed the deadlines on both TAR 6 and TAR 7 and are ~*very*~ anxious to apply for the 8th season! It just seems like we always hear about the application a week after the deadline :P

We think we'd be good candidates -- we know each other from being part of an organization that provides information/services to women who travel to rock concerts. I live in San Francisco and she lives in DC, finally met last year at a concert we both traveled to in FL and have been in close touch ever since. Also we think we'd be an interesting team -- she's a vegan marathon runner, I'm a carniverous fire dancer, we're different races (white and black), different ages (20s and 30s), different sexualities (straight, bisexual), but we share an undying love for designer jeans, live music and The Amazing Race!!!

Good luck everyone when the application comes out, hope to see ya on the starting line ;)

does anyone knows when is the tar 7? and does anyone here knows what season is the past winner in this race will join the race again?

Posted by: leby, 10 December 2004, 08:03 ( 8:03 AM)

I like the sound of having some comedy relief on the show. My brother and I would surely provide the comedy. I am six foot seven and he is six foot and looks like a mule! (wait, that's me! never mind) We know how to have a good time and make light of most situations. He, the competitor, while I, the instigator. We grew up on an Ohio farm and have many talents. (Jack of all trades but masters of none!) You name it, we have probably done it or heard about it. (hey watch it, know what your thinkin, no minds in the gutter!) We are both college educated, practical, resourceful, and eager to join the adventure of a life time since we have no money to do this on our own! Bills!? What bills? I don't need no stinking bills!
I do Civil War reenacting, so sleeping on the ground and eating rooster eggs will be no problems here. My brother can do all the running!
I believe if we got on the show with "Chocolate" and "Little Salsa", we could make an grrr...eight show. (Julie- Oct posting) Man, is this exciting or what!? Just wanted to put in a word. Will take the advice of sending an app. anyway. What could it hurt. Thanks for posting this site. I finally got the itch to travel again and to be on TV to boot. Hope people don't start writing in about Bigfoot sightings though, if I do get on the show. I try to stay out of wooded areas for that reason!

Thanks again for the site. Hope to see you all on the show!!!!

I think that me and my younget brother would be the perfect candidates for "T.A.R."...why you might ask, well its simple he's just turning 21 this Feb. To make a long story short, he's the demanding type(very organized,short-tempered) brother, and im the more relaxed, but in good shape type of guy. We are two(maybe the youngest ever on the show 21,23) and we're here to leave everyone eating our dust..... Please let me know about "TAR 8" and when the apps. are out!!!!Thanks..

my best friend and i are in our early 40s, but have more fun together than most people any age. We would definiately be the comic relief team, because we both have a sarcastic wit and like to poke fun at the obvious. let us know when tar8 apps are available

Hey - All of you others need not apply! Once those applications are posted for season 8, my boyfriend and I will have this all wrapped up! We are the ultimate team with 10 years of experience to prove it! We've traveled to several parts of the world in preparation for our ultimate victory on The Amzing Race 8! We're a smart, sexy, hardcore pair from New York & New Jersey......and we're ready. Are you?

Hi! My best friend Bonnie & I have already made our video for the show (it was really funny!) & filled out the application form for The Amazing Race 7 (but changed the number to 8!), and were unsure of where to send our packet. Should we send it to the 4120 Del Rey Ave. address or should we mail it to the 1247 Lincoln Blvd address (which is the location that The Amazing Race 7 applications were supposed to be sent to)? I want to make certain that the address would not have changed for some reason. Please let me know ASAP! :)

How do I apply to the Amazing Race 8? I think my boyfriend and I would be excellent candidates.

Let non-US citizens apply. This would spice it up eh.

How old do you have to be to join? And when should I start looking for information about the amazing race 8? Please send me an e-mail about this information!

Posted by: Tyler Hoffmann, 15 January 2005, 00:16 (12:16 AM)

I keep reading comments that TAR 8 is an all-star season. I look everyday for the application to come out, and it nothing has yet. Filming for season 8 should start this summer, therefore, the applications should be out by now, right? I had my heart set on applying, but it looks as though it might be all-stars, which stinks. I've yet to find anything official saying this, though. What do you guys think?

Posted by: DavidB, 17 January 2005, 12:07 (12:07 PM)

Is there any truth to the rumor that TAR may be cancelled because of ratings? There is a webpage that links a petition to sign to save the race from being eliminated: How valid is this? I'd hate to see the TAR removed from TV, it's such an awesome show; way better then all the other pitiful reality shows. If there is validity to this, then everyone needs to go sign it.

Please let me know when the Amazing Race 8 application comes out. My friend who is 56 and myself (38) want to apply and win it all! good luck to everyone!

Posted by: Alli, 25 January 2005, 21:24 ( 9:24 PM)

yes.... since they don't let non US citizens to join this Amazing Race..... they should confine their race within the states of the USA then....

Posted by: wen, 26 January 2005, 05:39 ( 5:39 AM)

Well it is an American TV show. If the rest of the world wants in then they should start a show themselves and maybe in the future we could have a show with Americans against say Europeans/other nationalities...that would be fun to see.

Posted by: Tom, 26 January 2005, 09:39 ( 9:39 AM)

Hi, my name is Tyler Smith and my Girlfriends name is Jacquelynn Reasy. We watch The Amazing race when ever its possible. Both of us think that theres no way we wouldn't win if we were on this show. We both have the drive and competitiveness to do what ever it takes to win theres nothing that can prevent us from reaching our goals. Thanks

Posted by: Tyler Smith, 26 January 2005, 19:46 ( 7:46 PM)

It's about time the Amazing Race had some competition from Aussies - my daughter Yvette & I would give the rest of you guys a run for your money if given half a chance. Try us!! She's the athlete & I'm the brains! Take us on - you need a challenge.

Posted by: Raelea Turner, 27 January 2005, 21:38 ( 9:38 PM)

Why do you people keep posting why you feel you should be on the Amazing Race here? If you're interested then apply, but I don't think this message board was meant for casting! So, some of you look foolish posting on here. Also, The Amazing Race is an AMERICAN SHOW. I'm quite tired of hearing how they should open it to foreign people. The producers have PLENTY of people to choose from in America, why in the hell would they want to look elswhere. The fun of The Amazing Race is seeing Americans in foreign countries that you can relate to racing for a million dollars of AMERICAN MONEY.

I mainly posted because I laugh reading these. But now it's annoying. Yeah, yeah, you think you will win, you're competitive, blah original here. Take us on? Bring the challenge? Who are you talking to? Weird. I don't mean to sound rude, but nobody cares why you think you should be on the race. I come on here to see updates and new news...not to see your biographies. Please apply with CBS, we aren't casting directors so I can care less how competitive you are!

Have a great day!

Posted by: Brandon, 28 January 2005, 12:08 (12:08 PM)

Hello Amazing Race!
My husband and I are crazy fans and watch you every week. We are dying to get on the show. We are both 22 years old. He's a college Student and I'm a Personal Trainer. Very athletic couple and love competing. We just don't know how to apply to get the ball rolling! Any help would be greatly appreciated! Hope to hear from someone with info.

Tegan and Justyn Yarbrough

Posted by: Tegan Yarbrough, 28 January 2005, 14:50 ( 2:50 PM)

Once again as stated before. WE DON'T CARE. We are not directors, casting agents, or producers. We do not have any affiliation with CBS.

If you don't know how to apply, you should not even be considered on the show if you can't even figure out how to use a search engine.

Your pathetic pleas are getting to be annoying. I don't mean to be rude, but I look for updates, news, etc...not how athletic and competitive you are.

I don't mean to be rude at all. It's great someone walked from California to New Mexico, but I kind of don't care. Nor am I sure why they are telling us that. It's getting so comical people are saying they are unique because they are blind in one eye and the other has diabetes? Did you read that? Good Lord.

This webpage has information with links on where to apply. It doesn't take a brainer to figure out this isn't CBS and the site isn't looking at your post and thinking, "Wow! a doctor and his nurse! How exciting...let's pick them!". There's a PROCESS people. You wait for a casting post on the CBS website, go to the site, print out the rules and application. Send it in to CBS before the deadline. Wait for a possible audition call. What is so hard about this?

Please refrain from dork-like biographies on this. You're wasting your time.

Posted by: Charlie, 1 February 2005, 21:19 ( 9:19 PM)

Easy Brando. Obviously not everyone feels the same way you do. Besides, as far as I can tell the last piece of interesting news that was posted on here was months ago. I think it's great so many people are so eager to get on the show...Just watch your back, ya'll, 'cause they're two smart, sexy, and animated ohio girls who're gonna blow you all away and have a sensational time doing so!!!

TAR is looking for people who make interesting and compelling tv. As 'funny' as some of you think you are, that won't go over well on the show because so much is edited out to accomodate the story line. As for 'sexy'? Please sexy has no place on this show. This is a competition and just because you're 'sexy' does not make you compelling enough to be interesting. Most of the 'sexy' people have been the biggest morons, so it's not indicative of who you are.

Posted by: oofie, 3 February 2005, 01:39 ( 1:39 AM)

right on, brando. it's so annoying to have to slog through all of these retarded postings on "why i'd be a great on TAR"...i'm just looking for pertinent info, not biographies on "the most competitive team EVER..." you people need to READ DIRECTIONS and learn how to DOWNLOAD THE APPLICATION...DUH!!!

so, now that i've gotten that off my chest...i have heard that TAR 8 is going to be an all star season; anyone know if this is true? if so, does that mean that casting for TAR 9 will be open to the public? anyone know where to find dates? thanks...

I say that we Canadians should get a petition going, requesting that Canadians be allowed to apply and participate in the Amazing Race. The majority of the show's viewers ARE Canadian and it would only make sense. Whaddya all think?

Posted by: Suzy Q, 3 February 2005, 13:23 ( 1:23 PM)

I'm going to assume that at least some of you are just having fun and kidding around...because if you're even half-serious, you need to come back down to Earth. The Amazing Race is not something you just join or sign up to do, or wait your turn's a HOLLYWOOD TV SHOW. The "powers that be" really don't care how competitive you think you are, how unique your "angle" is, how badly you want to do it, how many times you've applied, how cool your video is, etc., etc. After seven rounds of casting (including the show that hasn't aired yet) and tens of thousands of applications, I'm sure they've seen it all by now. If you do get chosen, it's more likely because they like the way you look and act in front of the camera, and not because you survived being tossed by a tornado after being chased by crocodiles into a path of molten lava.

Posted by: jp, 3 February 2005, 16:37 ( 4:37 PM)

sorry to break the news to you, suzy q, but the majority of viewers are NOT canadian. the number of applications for TAR 7 was upwards of 10,000...i don't think that they need to broaden the casting net. it's an AMERICAN show. how amenable do you think any other country would be if Americans wanted to be on their show?

Posted by: rn, 5 February 2005, 10:14 (10:14 AM)

Honestly, I don't think TAR needs spicing up. And if it did, I think the producers of the show could find plenty of interesting Americans. Since when have Canadians been known to be interesting, funny, controvertial or any of the other qualities that would 'spice' up a show?? And instead of wasting your time with a petition, suzy q, maybe you clever Canadians could make a nice generic rip-off of TAR, and not let any of us stingy Americans play your game. Then we can see how spicy you all can really be.

Some of you act as if there is some kind of conspiracy against non-U.S. citizens. Please! I'm sure that's hardly the case. This rule probably exists for a good reason (or several), Rules are put in place to protect, whether that be protecting the actual participants, or protecting the interests of the show's producers (i.e., to cover their behinds). Their attorneys probably advise them to limit participation to U.S. citizens/residents to avoid a multitude of potential issues, including but not limited to the administrative burden of sorting out and complying with varying foreign entry requirements, difficulty in performing background checks, and, above all, staying in compliance with the U.S. laws that regulate sweepstakes and contests. Do a search for yourself -- it's very difficult to find ANY U.S.-sponsored contest or sweepstakes that DOESN'T say "open only to U.S. residents".

He has however kindly provided a link ON THIS PAGE that will point you in the right direction if you want to apply for the show! If you can't figure all this out on your own, then how do you expect to solve even one clue in the actual race. So please enough with the "Hi Amazing Race, we would be great on your show so please let us be on it..." postings, because THIS IS NOT THE CBS OR THE OFFICIAL AMAZING RACE WEBSITE!!!

I hate to break it to you, but TAR is not an exclusively American show. It might be produced in the US, but it's carried on the networks of the rest of the English-speaking world, which means we're paying for it too. The reality is that Americans are pretty ignorant of the world around them, and putting them outside of their comfort zone makes for the most entertaining TV, particulary with their ignorant "ghetto Africa" comments.

Posted by: Jason, 9 February 2005, 00:50 (12:50 AM)

The reality is that many Americans cringe when we hear those stupid, ignorant comments, or when someone throws a temper tantrum because they can't communicate with the locals (the worst are those that scream very loud IN ENGLISH, as if this will make them be understood easier...). Obviously the show goes out of its way to cast people like this, because if everyone was more like Kris and John, the show would probably be very boring.

If the network affiliates in other countries are paying to broadcast this show, they why aren't they pushing to allow contestants from their countries. Just a thought.

Posted by: Anonymous, 9 February 2005, 04:09 ( 4:09 AM)

I say go ahead and let Canadian citizens apply. Because you know exactly what will happen. The most obnoxious, moronic, idiotic, and rude team possible will be cast (and please, spare the "no such thing" argument). Then maybe then you'll understand how some Americans feel when we watch the show.

Be careful what you wish for.

I am a high school teacher. So that means that I am working from the beginning of September until June. Is there any way that I can be a part of a competition? Most likely I will have to do a summer competition, correct?

Posted by: Chad, 9 February 2005, 06:10 ( 6:10 AM)

Anyone who cares...CBS has announced on their website that they are accepting applications for TAR 8, which will film this summer. However, the format is different - each team will consist of 4 family members! Team members can be as young as 12. The application on the cbs site ( has additional info.

Posted by: Anonymous, 9 February 2005, 10:06 (10:06 AM)

TAR 8 is for families. It will be 4 people in your family. Children need to be over 12. It will start shooting this spring.

Posted by: Nicole, 9 February 2005, 11:53 (11:53 AM)

Well, I think that is dumb in my opinion. I don't want to see a bunch of kids running around the world in lame kiddy legs.

I really think CBS is making a big mistake changing the format for season 8. This might be the downfall of the show.

We will soon see.

Posted by: Brando, 9 February 2005, 12:03 (12:03 PM)

The definition of "family" for this edition is very loose and apparently open to interpretation. One example given on the application says the "family" can be an engaged couple and future in-laws. So, we won't necessarily be seeing all Mom/Pop/Daughter/Son teams, and maybe only a few "minors" (anyone under 18 must have a parent or guardian on the team with them). Also, you can actually apply with 5 team members, allowing the producers/casting directors to choose 4 of the 5 to be on the show. The application even asks for children's "back to school" date.

It may be interesting to see how it plays out, and if it doesn't go over well, they can always go back to the old format.

Posted by: jen, 9 February 2005, 12:35 (12:35 PM)

Hey! I don't know if anyone has posted this information yet. I didn't have time to real all of the posts. Anyways, I just read the official rules in order to be on TAR 8. Instead of being 21, you only need to be, yes this is what I actually read on the official affplication form, 12 years old. 12! But one team member has to be 21. I could be on, if I was from the US. I hope to see some kids on TAR. Maybe I just read that wrong.... 12?

Posted by: David, 9 February 2005, 17:10 ( 5:10 PM)

Sorry about that! I guess I shouldv'e read the last few posts before making mine...

Posted by: David, 9 February 2005, 17:14 ( 5:14 PM)

i think that having a family amazing race is stupid i mean its going to seem to move at a much slower pace because the kids wont be able to keep up! and i dont know about anybody else im pissed that rorb and amber from survivor are allowed to do 2 reality shows i mean isnt 1 million dollars enough ? sheesh - ok talk to ya soon

Posted by: kristin, 9 February 2005, 17:21 ( 5:21 PM)

I just watched the finale of TAR and was ecstatic!! I am pumped for the next season!!

Posted by: FitChic, 9 February 2005, 19:33 ( 7:33 PM)

I am a huge fan of the Amazing Race, and have watched it every season, and applied a couple of times. I am personally upset that teams of two cannot apply for this next race. I love kids. In fact I am a teacher. BUT the amazing race is for adults to compete. If something works why change it? Although producers will do what producers want to do.

Posted by: China, 9 February 2005, 20:12 ( 8:12 PM)

I just found out about the 4-member teams on AR8, and after missing 2 deadlines trying to get with my teammate to make our video, I am definitely disappointed. I've loved this show from the beginning. But as someone who has worked in TV-land, I know the mentality is "our ratings are slipping, we have to do something different!" Survivor, the Apprentice, Fear Factor, they all do it.

Unforunately, they often change the main thing that people like about the show. And for better or worse, I think a big part of this show's appeal is seeing how inept couples are in relating to each other under pressure. But who wants to see an adult yelling at a kid?! I mean it's embarrassing enough watching ugly Americans in foreign countries. My guess (and hope) is they will edit any of that out and that they will keep the kids on teams to a minimum.

Personally, I think they should have done a separate family version or kids version, maybe in a race around the US. I just hope they haven't shot themselves in the foot. Because in TV-land, it's hard to get your audience back once you've lost it. I say us diehards fans support their latest effort, and then let them know whether we like it or not.

Posted by: Dorothy, 10 February 2005, 09:05 ( 9:05 AM)

Hey Brando, I think your tactics are working -- the number of "dork-like" bios as you called them have substantially decreased (although I'm slightly bummed, as it was somewhat entertaining...)

My husband & 3 of our 4 kids did apply for TAR 8. Does anyone know how long before we hear anything?

Posted by: Alice, 16 March 2005, 08:37 ( 8:37 AM)

It will probably be at least the second week of April because they are doing open casting calls until at least the 21st of March maybe longer.

Personally, I think the family idea is great. You guys are all assuming that it's going to be "kiddy time". I doubt it. Remember... a cool $1 mill is on the line. I think they'll make us work for it. And not all kids are wimps either. I'm not getting into a "pick me" blog here, since I'm not a moron - I do realize this isn't the place to sign up (plus the deadline's passed anyway). However, JUST in the interest of an example... we took the kids and moved to Spain for a couple of years. While there, our kids went to public schools without knowing Spanish (very tough), learned to navigate the public transport system in our town to get back and forth from school every day (double tough) and my daughter - upon realizing that we weren't giving her any more than $3 to spend while visiting Segovia over Easter Break - danced around a crowded plaza with a mixture of modern dance/French street artist, while her twin brother held out a hat to get some extra cash. Oh, and this was last year when they were 11.

IMHO - Kids can be "amazing" AND their spontenaity would lend itself to TAR perfectly. Remember the movie "The Sandlot"? Hillarious! Mostly because of the various, often ingenious attempts, the kids made to get that Babe Ruth baseball back from "the beast".

I certainly hope the producers are careful in their casting and DON'T settle for putting us on some lame romp through Disneyworld (one place we HAVEN'T been).

Does anyone know any information on TAR 9? Any info on applications or deadlines? Also, do you know if you can apply 2 times for one season if it's a different team? Ex: Could I send in a tape w/my sister and I and then one w/my boyfriend and I? (Obviously only one of those teams could be chosen.)Any information would be greatly appreciated!!! Good luck to everyone!

I am looking at signing up for amazing race 8. Does it have to be family of can it be friends?
When also, would the show take place, I would need to take time off of work to go and find someone to watch my kids. Also, how long are you away from home for? TTFN
Thanks, Lori

People--the deadline for TAR #8 has come and gone as have the open casting calls. If things go as they have in the past the information for TAR #9 that will not be released until probable late July to mid August. They have announce that TAR #9 will go back to the two person teams, but who knows, that may change to, I don't think it will but you never know. After all it is TV. Good luck to all.

I have always wanted to travel the world ever since I was a little girl. Well being my last year of highschool I have been watching this show. Coming up with my own stragies and wished every week that I was able to be on this show. I love adventure, competition and the excitment of finding stratagies. Please could you email me with information to become a true amazing racer. Thanks Kenzie Field 17. Vancouver B.C.

I don't understand how some of you figured out how to post a message here, but yet obviously cannot read and comprehend the paragraph at the top of this page, which provides all of the information and advice you need if you want to apply for the Amazing Race. Apart from that, why don't you try visiting the CBS website?? You know, that network that airs the show?? If you can't find any information there, that means they currently aren't accepting applications! Simple as that. If you can't figure out that this site is not affiliated with CBS or the Amazing Race, and that no one reading these messages has any say whatsoever in who gets cast for the show, then how in the world do you expect to read and comprehend a single clue in the actual race???

Posted by: jp, 6 April 2005, 15:26 ( 3:26 PM)

JP--You hit it right. Anyone with just a little common sense would know by reading the top on the page that it would be best to go to the CBS web site to get the information needed. Sometimes people that have been lucky enough to get a step farther than just mailing in the appliacation (as my partner and I did, but didn't make the final cut) may have advice to offer here, but even then things can change and I for sure would not give any of my ideas away. Myself, I just read this for something to do.

My family has just applied for Amazing Race 8 and we are waiting to see if we will be called back. If anyone knows if they have reached all of the semi-finalists or if you have been called back, please e-mail me at Also, if there are teams of four, how are the teams going to fit in taxis if they have cameramen and backpacks?

Posted by: Brendan, 8 April 2005, 18:54 ( 6:54 PM)

I was wondering the same thing with AR8. Sent in my application and just waiting now. Do you think they have contacted everyone they are intent on interviewing? I'd like to stop sitting by the phone.

Posted by: PRidley, 10 April 2005, 11:39 (11:39 AM)

On the application it said they would reach people sometime in the month of April, so I think there may still be time.

i need info on ar9 and wanted to know if it is teams of 4 or 2 email me at

Posted by: Jeremy, 11 April 2005, 20:35 ( 8:35 PM)

Of course we missed the deadline for the family of four. However, we would be a great family to choose b/c we are not speaking at this very second. I am referring to my husband and I and his mother and sister. We were once a very strong and close family but in June of 04 my husband's father was brutually attack by 2 inmates in a prison. He suffered major brain trama. Due to the unforsee incident it has placed a terrible strain on the family that seems of mendable. I believe that some devine intervention needs to take place to heal this family. Who knows maybe having to work together on the Amazing Race could do that. HELP!

Posted by: Krissy, 17 April 2005, 19:26 ( 7:26 PM)

People , when they contact the semi finialist they will not tell you because if any of the teams do, they can be disqualified. You can believe me, I know a team that was disqualified for letting other people know. I'm not just saying this to sound like a know it all. If they do like they did last season you will receive a letter saying sorry, try again next time after the teams have been selected. Good luck anyway.

Just had to post a quick reply, after reading this quote, from a previous posting above;

"Since when have Canadians been known to be interesting, funny, controvertial or any of the other qualities that would 'spice' up a show?"

Jim Carrey, Mike Myers, Phil Hartman, Martin Short, John Candy, Dan Aykroyd, David Folley, Micheal J Fox, Tom Green, Lorne Micheals, Leslie Neilsen, Matthew Perry, Eugene Levy, Catherine O'Hara... To name a few.

I'd put that list against any list our friends to the South could put together.

Now if you'll excuse me, I have to put my dog-sled team away for the night - it's only mid-April here in Toronto, so it's still -40 celcius, and we have another Polar bear warning from Prime Minister Poutine.

Posted by: Blame Canada, 19 April 2005, 21:01 ( 9:01 PM) have a good point. Good luck!

Posted by: Anonymous, 20 April 2005, 09:30 ( 9:30 AM)

I've seen your comments about getting notified of NOT being selected. But do you know how long it takes to review all the applications and notify folks who ARE selected. My family and I auditioned and were told we did very well (for what it's worth). I would like to make summer vacation plans, but not if there is even the slightest chance we might make it to the semi-finals. Any info you have on a probable timeline would be most helpful. Over a month has passed since the application process closed. Do you think it's reasonable to assume I can move on with live w/o the TAR8?

LMAO @ JP's comment. So damn true. If you dont have the common sense to use the slightest amount of resource you need to even apply ( a direct link on this site to CBS), how would you even be able to comprehend detailed information for the detours, roadblocks and fast forwards? By the time you've figured it out youll be out of the race, haha......

Posted by: bassbiz, 21 April 2005, 20:12 ( 8:12 PM)

If you mailed in your app. and have been called back and have had your interview and screen test, going by last year, they gave us a date that we would contacted and the later they call the better you did even if you don't make it---it was 9:45 PM our time and it was the last day of the notification when we received our disappointing call and about 3 days later we received a letter in the mail. They call as they get rid of the team they don't want, so we knew we were close to making it and because they said they had only two more teams to contact. But they did give us a final date that we would be contacted for the final cut because we were told to make a doctor appointment by a certain date in case we were picked when we received our screen test notice. We received our call the night before we were to go to the doctor for the phyical. Sad for us, but we had to cancel our app.

However, if you went to an open casting call, I would think the contacts would be the same---but you never know. I have only heard that some are dropped before they leave the location and don't know until the teams are announced. But this is something I have only heard roomer of, it may not be true.

Who knows things may be totally different this time. Anyway good luck.

Posted by: Anonymous, 22 April 2005, 09:42 ( 9:42 AM)

We received a packet with all the information in it as far as times and dates. After the final meeting with the producers, we were told we would be notified with 7 days.

From one want-to-be to another, lol

I just wanted to point out the reason you have to be an American citizen are visa issues for the countries you enter around the world. Americans can travel almost anywhere in the world without needing a visa, where citizens from many other countries are not that lucky. It sucks, but it would be difficult and confusing for the producers to have to worry about different visas for different countries. I'm sure it's hard enough with just Americans getting in and out of some countries.

I really want to be on the AMAZING RACE 9! They have not yet had a brother/sister duo. My brother and I would be perfect for AMAZING RACE 9! I can't figure out where to get the application, and I really want to apply. If anyone can help please e-mail me! Thanks!

Hey everyone!! WHOA the Amazing Race 7 is the best!! I really want Uchenna and Joyce to win or Meredith and Gretchen!!!!!! I really want to get on the show, im 14 years old can there be a season with TEENS!!!

Posted by: Kelvin, 27 April 2005, 00:26 (12:26 AM)

Whoever posted the comment that they have never had a brother sister team obviously hasn't watched the show. Get a clue.

Posted by: Anonymous, 27 April 2005, 03:42 ( 3:42 AM)

In Summary:

1)There has already been at least two brother/sister teams on TAR; 2)They have not yet announced casting info for TAR9; and 3)It's unlikely that they will ever have an "all teen" edition for numerous reasons, including but not limited to liability, liability, and liability. Even in the upcoming family edition, any and all minors must have a parent or legal guardian racing with them.

And for the millionth time, if you want casting info, go to the most logical place to find it -- the cbs website. If you can't find anything there, it means they're not currently accepting applications. End of story.

Hi there, We are an Australian couple have been together for 5 years now we love the show and want to know if people from outside the US can apply. Are we able to apply being Australian. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE I really really hope that we can please get back to me. Thank you so much.

Is there a way that Australias can apply to go on 'The Amazing Race?' Our family loves the show. So much so that that is the only night our children are aloud to stay up pass their bed time. I would love to enter to go on this show. Is there a way Australia's can apply?

Posted by: Linda, 28 April 2005, 22:24 (10:24 PM)

I read that the AR format is for sale. So other contries/producers should produce their own version if there is such a great interest.

Wow, I just came across this site, and I must say, it's very entertaining! There are certainly a lot of delusional people out there. I could be wroing, but I don't think anyone that is officially affiliated with The Amazing Race (casting directors, producers, etc.) is lurking here, so just who do you expect to receive an e-mail from? (Let alone one that's actually going to help you apply for and get on the actual race!)

I love the amazing race, and my husband and I would be great canidates for the show. I can't tell you how disappointed we were when we looked into applying and found out that only U.S citzens can apply. We are Canadian, And agree with the others that it would add an interesting twist to allow Canadians to participate.

has anybody heard of semi finalists being selected for Amazing Race 8

Posted by: simon, 2 May 2005, 09:47 ( 9:47 AM)

Does anyone out there know of any teams that have made it on the AR? The more I watch AR the more convinced I am that things are not as they appear. I wonder how much of it is acting or even directed towards a certain end. In AR 7, Rob and Amber didn't even try to get to the fast foward. They are getting marrried right after the Race (to be aired in May), so maybe they knew she would have to get her head shaved...Not to good for a bride to be! How many of us would stop watching if we knew it was acting?

Posted by: redguy, 2 May 2005, 11:00 (11:00 AM)

I was just informed by my sister (one of my co-applicants) for the AR8 that her boss and his team were contacted about being semi-finalists for this edition. They are a bunch of marathoners... all adults from UT though I would have though that they would have been instructed to keep mum from the AR producers. So with that said take this posting with a grain of salt. The timing sounds about right though.

Disappointed that I didn't get a call but it was fun just going through the application process.

Posted by: Nicholas DeJaugger, 2 May 2005, 16:55 ( 4:55 PM)

What a friend Nic!!!!! You could have just disqualified the UT team by posting your message. Way to go dumb one.

Also, to those that want app. for #9, how many times do you need to be told, #8 has to begin before #9 app. will be released.

Posted by: Anonymous, 3 May 2005, 14:38 ( 2:38 PM)

Perhaps I was not clear in my earlier posting. If a team (despite I'm sure being warned by the producers against blathering) decides to start telling people that they have been selected for continuation in the acceptance process (I cannot believe my sister was the only person told... do you?) then their potential disqualification is their own doing for failing to keep mum. IMO he was just telling people he'd been selected because he told everyone he'd applied and didn't want egg on his face when co-workers started asking about how things were going application wise. It was certainly not my intent to disqualify any team though I seriously doubt anyone associated with the AR really reads this board.

Posted by: Nicholas DeJaugger, 4 May 2005, 09:29 ( 9:29 AM)

After watching last nights race. They should rename it "The Rob and Amber Amazing Race show".
This cannot be real! Why would R&A take such a risk by flying standby when they were right near a potential elimination. Totally planned TV. It is so predictible. Not to mention that they won a prize for being first to the mat. This is all geared to get people fired up so they want to see if R & A will win another million (who cares). And it's working like crazy! What a marketing move by the producers. There's better stuff on TV on Tuesday nights than to watch amature actors scramble for money and fame. I hope NBC's show Treasure Hunters is better than TAR. I'm very disappointed with reality TV. Seems like amature actors and models are hired and directed by the producers to go a certain direction. Then they get you all hyped up to "join in" by sending in your videos. Of course you'll be a loyal fan by watching and trying to learn how to be a good player. But atlas the call never comes, and your dreams of racing are just that "The Amazing Dream". Back to your real life.

Posted by: Anonymous, 4 May 2005, 11:17 (11:17 AM)

I have to side with Nic above. If his sister's boss (heck, I've never even met my sister's boss, let alone consider him a "friend") is truly being considered for the race and is required to keep mum about it, then he's the idiot that should not have blabbed about it to his employees. If his team becomes disqualified, it won't be because some person posted a second-hand rumor on the internet, it will be because he himself couldn't keep his mouth shut.

-- blind item suggests producers sabatoged something, then had cast member removed.
Gossip columnists' "blind" items generally bore me, as they're either so completely vague that they have half a dozen different solutions, or they're just incomprehensible. But "New York's hottest young gossip columnist," Ben Widdicombe, dropped a semi-interesting, reality TV-related blind item late last week. It suggests that a reality TV show is basically fixed, as producers had someone removed when that person "wouldn't play along." Here's the item:

"Which reality star was offered a spot in the show's final four if he admitted on camera to an act of sabotage against a rival that was actually carried out by the producers? He wouldn't play along and was duly axed."

I knew a guy who was on one of these shows, He said he was paid a little on the side to keep things interesting. The directors know what they want! And pay "amature" actors to do it. Yes, the guy I know was a amature actor. So it's not reality TV but semi-scripted tv.

And while you're at it, ask them about non-resident U.S. citizens, as according to the eligibility requirements, you must also live in the U.S. to be considered. Seems to me that they'd change the rules to accommodate U.S. citizens living abroad before they'd allow non-U.S. citizens to apply. Face it -- they're not going to change the rules anytime soon, for a multitude of good reasons (many of which have been suggested on this site), no matter how great the interest is.

Then again, it's Hollywood. One of these days, a producer will spot two people on the street that he/she just has to have for the show, find out they're not U.S. citizens, and bingo, just like that, the rules are "bent".

The deadline is Tuesday July 26th at 5pm. Good luck to you all! My sister and I (hopefully!) look forward to the possibility of racing w/you!!!

Posted by: Christie, 12 May 2005, 08:46 ( 8:46 AM)

Did you watch the finale of TAR 7? How many times have you seen a plane that's about to leave, allow someone who is late board. Especially when the door is closed and the ramp is moved away! I never have. I think the race is fixed to create drama for the tv viewers. I also think people are wasting their time trying to send in a video. Honestly, how many people out there sent in a video and didn't even get a call? Some one should sue them for mental anguish and false advertizing!

Posted by: Anonymous, 12 May 2005, 10:48 (10:48 AM)

Yeah, I thought the same thing about the finale. The only thing I could think of is that the show probably has to have all sorts of security clearance. I don't think a U.S airport EVER would have done that. But maybe since it was Puerto Rico (a U.S territory)and it's an American Show which while traveling probably has to meet all sorts of criteria, maybe they agreed. She said "the authorities said it's ok." Who knows? I definately think the show had some pull in getting them on the plane. However, if everyone had your attitude towards applying for the show then nobody would be on it. I understand that the chnaces of being picked are like 1 in hundreds of thousands...but that's true of all the contestants. It's not a "waste of time." If people don't apply then they can't have a show. People should be realistic w/their expectations but that doesn't mean they have absolutely NO chance. :)

Posted by: Christie, 12 May 2005, 14:16 ( 2:16 PM)

Hi...I come from Taiwan. I very like TAR this kind of race. Could somebody tell me how to get or to participate this race? I'd really like to join that.... thanks!!

Posted by: Ray, 12 May 2005, 15:49 ( 3:49 PM)

Sue them? Are you serious???? Mental anguish? Pathetic. False advertising? Get real. It's a TV show produced in Hollywood, for crying out loud. They are under no obligation whatsoever to even look at your application or send you any type of communication regarding your status. They have the right to cast any way they want to, whether it be through the formal application process, open auditions, spotting someone on the street, etc. It's no different from casting for any other movie or TV show. There are thousands of wanna-be actors and actresses in Hollywood that spend most of their waking hours preparing for and going to auditions and waiting for that big break, only to watch someone else snag a role with little or no effort (e.g., snatched up off the street or lucked out at their very first audition). And you want to sue TAR? Too funny.

For that matter, it's no different from corporate America. Some job positions are filled by referrals, and sometimes a company will accept applications for a job that they ultimately don't hire anyone for. That's life, deal with it, and quit waiting by the phone.

LMAO at Heidi's "Amazing Idiot" comment. So true.

Posted by: Anonymous, 12 May 2005, 19:14 ( 7:14 PM)

Why do the producers of reality shows like TAR, Survivor, etc. require the people who get interviews, etc. sign a contract that they will not discuss the show or the application process with anyone or face getting sued for up to 100,000 dollars? Why all the secrecy? Like Nic's comment above about dis-qualifying his friends. Can someone explain?

Posted by: Redguy, 13 May 2005, 14:50 ( 2:50 PM)

My sister and I really wants to join the amazing race how can we join cause we are far and we don't know how to get an application. Please

Posted by: henry, 14 May 2005, 02:40 ( 2:40 AM)

Why can't some of you understand that this is ultimately a TV show? Your chance of being selected is only slightly better than if you were to audition for any other TV show or movie. The million-dollar prize is there to help create drama, nothing more, nothing less. If this were a "true" competition such as Jeopardy, the "casting" process (key word being "casting") would consist of various "tests" and not auditions and interviews. Heck, TAR "cast members" even get actor/actress profiles on the imdb!

I'm not trying to say that you shouldn't apply (by all means, go for it and have fun doing so) because you never know! If they call you, they call you. If they don't, oh well, you'll be in good company with tens of thousands of others.

I want to take part in The Amazing Race - 8. Kindly let me know how can I take part. I am an Indian.

Posted by: Saurabh Shourie, 16 May 2005, 08:03 ( 8:03 AM)

I don't think she's an idiot! She's absolutely right about the casting. My sister and I plan on applying however, I think you would probably both die of absolute shock if we heard anything back. It's something we would both hope for but realistically we would never expect for it to happen. The odds are just very slim. She's also right about casting. They don't cast like a real competition. They are interviewing people to find the right fit for the "characters" they want to have on their show. I don't think the contestants "act", but I think the producers have it set in their mind what they want to see and then they do their best to find people to fit those molds. Have fun applying (just like we will) but be realistic w/your expectations. :)

Posted by: Anonymous, 16 May 2005, 08:40 ( 8:40 AM)

^^Agree completely. Anyone with half a brain knows who the real idiots are on this board.

Posted by: Anonymous, 16 May 2005, 09:03 ( 9:03 AM) must not watch the show very much.....the 8th edition of the show just ended. Now we are on #9....I really don't think you are ready for a show like this. It involves knowing how to count.

Posted by: Anonymous, 16 May 2005, 09:32 ( 9:32 AM)

I love this show and i would like to join pleaz let me join

Posted by: A, 16 May 2005, 09:38 ( 9:38 AM)

No, #7 just ended. #8 (family edition) will be filming soon, and they've just started accepting applications for #9. It's too late to apply for #8, but not for #9. But Saurabh, you have to be a U.S. citizen.

Posted by: Anonymous, 16 May 2005, 09:40 ( 9:40 AM)

^^^Assuming "Indian" is your nationality vs. heritage.

Posted by: Anonymous, 16 May 2005, 10:23 (10:23 AM)

Hey all! We just found out we made the final cut and maybe will be on the AMAZING RACE 8! We'll let you know how it goes! We met some of the other possible family teams, They are all great, funny people, but they are all losers, We will win.. Watch us win a cool million!

Posted by: Anonymous, 16 May 2005, 11:07 (11:07 AM)

Dumb me....Yes your right, I'm wrong. I was thinking about #8 begining to start fliming the race in about 2 wks. and apps for #9 being accepted at this time......Congrats to the team making the final cut. Hope you make it. My friend and I made it that far in #7, but then got booted. It was a real disappointment, but it's fun to try.

Want to know about ratings and how the producers think? READ ON-- "CBS canceled "Judging Amy," "Joan of Arcadia" and the Wednesday spinoff of "60 Minutes" while adding Jennifer Love Hewitt to its prime-time lineup — all in search of a more youthful appeal" (hence the Amazing Race 8, the family version). The network will add two comedies and four dramas in September.

CBS is the nation's most-watched network this season for the fourth time in five years. It will narrowly lose to Fox among viewers aged 18 to 49, a once unfathomable feat for formerly stodgy CBS, and its executives smell victory in the demographic for which advertisers pay a premium.

So it was no coincidence that, except for Sunday's edition of "60 Minutes," the CBS shows with the oldest audiences were axed.

"We want to win it all," said CBS Chairman Leslie Moonves. "Yes, we do want to win in 18-to-49s. Absolutely. You have never heard me say and I will never say that that is all that matters. The only people who say that are now losing it."

CBS is convinced it can draw more younger viewers on Friday, where "Joan of Arcadia" had a puzzling decline in its sophomore season and "JAG" finished its last year. It will try two new supernatural stories: "Threshold" features a team of experts called in when the Navy discovers aliens have landed in the Atlantic Ocean. Hewitt's "Ghost Whisperer" finds her talking to dead people.

"I think talking to ghosts may skew younger than talking to God," Moonves said.

The Wednesday spinoff to "60 Minutes" was doomed by low ratings and its older audience, not its story last fall about President Bush's military service, Moonves said. With "48 Hours Mysteries" on Saturday, CBS has two remaining newsmagazines.

"Judging Amy," featuring Amy Brenneman and Tyne Daly, ends after its sixth season. "Listen Up," the comedy with Jason Alexander portraying a sportswriter, lasted just one year.

With its crime dramas continuing to work well, CBS will add "Criminal Minds," a thriller about FBI profilers who try to stop criminals, and "Close to Home," with Jennifer Finnigan (NBC's "Committed) starring as a suburban prosecutor.

"Two and a Half Men," the highest-rated situation comedy left on broadcast television, will move into the 9 p.m. Monday slot vacated by "Everybody Loves Raymond," which drew a series-high 33 million viewers to its finale this week.

The two new comedies added to Monday's schedule recall two NBC hits that ended last year. "How I Met Your Mother" is a romantic story described as "Friends"-like by Moonves. "Out of Practice," about a dysfunctional family of doctors with Henry Winkler and Stockard Channing, is by the creative team behind "Frasier." Kelsey Grammer directed the pilot.

"The King of Queens" returns to CBS' Monday comedy lineup.

CBS agreed to pick up two midseason shows: "Everything I Know About Men," a comedy starring Jenna Elfman ("Dharma & Greg") as an ambitious secretary and "The Unit," an action drama produced by David Mamet.

CBS made no changes to its enormously successful Thursday lineup, where "Survivor" and "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation" as well as "Without a Trace" reign supreme.

"We win Thursday night by 8 million viewers over NBC," Moonves said. "Who would have thought that possible three or four years ago?"

Moonves can't resist jibing Jeff Zucker, NBC Universal Television chief, and it took him only 20 seconds into a news conference Wednesday to get in the first shot.

He later pointed out that NBC's "Medium" is produced by Paramount Television, owned, like CBS, by Viacom.

"We were very happy to give Jeff Zucker his only hit from last year," he said.

See it's all about RATINGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, Has anyone heard anything about being selected for TAR 9? Applications were done yesterday. Just anxious!!

Posted by: Anonymous, 27 July 2005, 15:01 ( 3:01 PM)

This article claims 4-6 weeks...

Posted by: Anonymous, 29 July 2005, 03:52 ( 3:52 AM)

Hello everyone - before posting please read ....... if you are not clever enough to search and find the application/rules/eligibility for TAR then most likely you will not have a chance in hell in winning. wake up and do some research.

Posted by: cw, 9 August 2005, 05:09 ( 5:09 AM)

It would be a honor for me and my whife to take part in the next Amazing Race contest, as I dont mis a show on TV. I would like to see if me and my whife are capable to take part in such a reality show. Please Pick Us!

Posted by: Andre Visser, 9 August 2005, 09:56 ( 9:56 AM)

I'm not a US Citizen but I watch the show religiously!
I think they should look into holding an INTERNATIONAL series with 2 US, 2UK, 2Australian, 2 Canadian 2New Zealand teams (or simillar, english speaking nations) How great would it be to see the different english speaking cultures competing in a race. All these nations have different values, approaches to things and different problem solving. Just imagine the clashes and cultural exchanges that would take place! I realise its probably a lot of work for the shows producers to line up visas for al these Nations but honestly it would make one FANTASTIC SHOW! Plus it would have even more appeal to the non US nations... Having a 'local' to barrack for.
Otherwise... How do you get US citizenship when you dont live there LOL!!!!

Posted by: Linda, 14 August 2005, 00:23 (12:23 AM)

Hi. Just wondering if anyone has heard if they have started callbacks yet for TAR 9. I read the article that said "4-6 weeks", but I am getting a little anxious. If anyone hears about people getting a call, let me know!
I have refrained from writing MY bio and posting it on here...but laughing at the people who do! LOL

Posted by: jkg, 16 August 2005, 07:48 ( 7:48 AM)

I haven't gotten my call YET...

Posted by: Anonymous, 17 August 2005, 09:46 ( 9:46 AM)

Well, has anyone heard anything yet?? It's coming to the four week period.

Posted by: Anonymous, 22 August 2005, 09:46 ( 9:46 AM)

heard nothing, but I am guessing anyone who has been called isn't exactly scouring the web like the rest of us for information on it----

Posted by: andrea, 22 August 2005, 10:58 (10:58 AM)

my family, friends and i LOVE the amazing race and we keep on saying that it would be fantastic that my sister and i participate. But just one quick question, is there any way that people from other countries, like Mexico, participate?, please answer truthfully.

Posted by: Juan Manuel, 22 August 2005, 13:25 ( 1:25 PM)

Has anyone heard back on their AR 9 audition tape yet? I saw the last post from 8/17 but thought I'd check again since it's a week later. My teammate and I have about given up hope!

Posted by: AR Junkie, 23 August 2005, 11:48 (11:48 AM)

I've asked on other sites as well, no one has heard anything...yet. Production company said calls will be made the "end of August". Seems as though they should start now. They did say 4-6 weeks after applications ended. I'm trying to stay positive! Where did you choose to go for next round?

Posted by: Nancy, 24 August 2005, 06:53 ( 6:53 AM)

So, I was on another site and someone said that they called and were told that all the calls had gone out. Then another person said that they had called yesterday and were told that calls would go out the 1st week of September. I'm thinking it's probably time to give up hope. However we technically have until Sept 6th if you go by the whole 4-6 wks time frame. Has anybody heard any similar stories on here?

Posted by: Anonymous, 1 September 2005, 05:53 ( 5:53 AM)

It's been a few days. Does anyone have info. on calls for semi-finals?

Posted by: Anonymous, 6 September 2005, 15:22 ( 3:22 PM)

Another site I found said that they were over...I think it's time to give up...sorry. :(

Posted by: Anonymous, 7 September 2005, 11:38 (11:38 AM)

I've come across this web site which sounds like the amazing race without the cameras and the million dollars but an appealing prize: ["The Real Race: Australia] has anyone heard on this one before?

Posted by: Kylie, 18 September 2005, 03:22 ( 3:22 AM)

why we can't join the amazing race?is that we are not american citizen many people love ur show all over the world and i think they also love to join...give us some break...we can do it...afterall your ratings is not only coming in US but in ASIA also...give us feedback plz many people waiting to join....

Posted by: ROBY, 24 September 2005, 19:58 ( 7:58 PM)

If us Canadian made amazing race no# in Canada, we should have the opertunity to apply for the races comming up. Think of the ratings you would get having Canadians on the show.

Posted by: Donna Campbell, 28 September 2005, 11:18 (11:18 AM)

What does everyone think of TAR 8 so far? I fear it's going to be a long boring season.

Posted by: Anonymous, 30 September 2005, 05:12 ( 5:12 AM)

I agree that Canadians should be allowed to entere the race. Why the limitation to only Americans? Is it FEAR? Fear that the Canadians would win! That's probably the biggest reason right there. Can't have the neighbours to the North showing up their brothers and sisters to the South.

Posted by: Joe Allen, 5 October 2005, 08:14 ( 8:14 AM)

^^^Right, I'm sure it has nothing to do with increased administrative burden, liability, and legal issues associated with having non-US citizens participate. If I remember correctly, the application also states that you must be a U.S. resident - meaning, a U.S. citizen residing abroad cannot apply, either. Maybe in time they'll find a way to relax the rules a bit, but for now, we have to assume the rules exist for good reasons.

Posted by: Anonymous, 6 October 2005, 17:49 ( 5:49 PM)

I was just trying to stir it up a bit with my comments. I understand there are probably legal parameters/VISA issues that go hand in hand with the entries being limited to those US citizens who reside in their country. One can hope though that somehow the powers that be can work to eliminate these barriers.

Posted by: Joe, 19 October 2005, 09:08 ( 9:08 AM)

My sister and I want to be on The Amazing Race. We would be tough competitors. But we need to know when to send in applications. Is there a phone number to call or application to fill out for the next race? Will there be a race 9 or 10? Which web site will help us? We are both US citizens and lots of fun to be around. They would up their ratings if we could get the chance to prove it. Other fami8ly members would like to apply too.
Thanks for anyones help

Posted by: Shirley Edelman, 2 November 2005, 04:44 ( 4:44 AM)

My team mate and I have the audition tape, the application, and what it takes to make the race. The only thing we are missing is information on TAR 10. I check daily for the deadline. Any hints on the deadline for TAR 10?

Posted by: Steve, 3 November 2005, 06:08 ( 6:08 AM)

^^^^ If it follows the same timeline as the past the info won't be out until after TAR9 begins showing which should be early 2006. Just keep checking the CBS website. When they are ready...the info will be there.

Posted by: Anonymous, 7 November 2005, 05:53 ( 5:53 AM)

i freakin love amazing race and i hope they do a family edition again so my family can go on the show causz we love to watch it all the time

Posted by: mercades, 16 December 2005, 14:56 ( 2:56 PM)

I think the Amazing Race should allow all North Americans. The Races are world wide so why shouldn't the contestants be. Just have English speaking as a main language because of the viewers. It would be nice to see people from all over North America tuning in to route for someone from their hometown.

Posted by: Andrew, 6 April 2006, 11:32 (11:32 AM)

Hey we are addicted to the AMAZING RACES (great name by the way), we have been watching this show for a while. In December of 2006 we will both (heather and meaghen) be graduating from college. Before we get into the "real world" we want to live it up a little or a lot. So what do we need to do to be on this crazy show???? It is our favorite show and if the Hippies can win so can the softball girls!!! Respond if you will, and we will show you how the game is played. Love your next MILLIONAIRES!!!

Hey Man, my name's Colin and my girlfriend's name is Karrie. She's from Canada and I live in Virginia Beach. I was a Navy SEAL for 6 years and have been around the world. I'm back in Iraq right now and will be home in three weeks. She's been around the world as well and have done many of the things I did in the Navy, like rappelling, diving, jumping, you name it. We met online, got together and fell in love in a very short time. We are both competetive and want to do the Amazing Race. We heard it's open to Canadians now, so it looks like she's eligible. I'll try and download the application, but may have to wait until I get back home, because the bandwidth SUCKS here. Let me know what you think.

My husband and I want to be in the 9th race. We have been together for almost 22 years. We both crave to go all around the world and win the race!!

Posted by: Ulla, 21 March 2007, 13:31 ( 1:31 PM)

Im really angry with the producers and their "NO Canadians or foreigners" rule becuase for a fact I know myself and a good buddy of mine could destroy these other contestants that we've seen on the show, the drive and passion we have for wanting to be on the race overwhelm ourselves everytime we watch an episode we see on tv. Wouldnt it be interesting to see a team of canadians go up againts americans and having the start and finish line begin and end in USA.. i think it'd get people rooting for the underdogs.

This is actually a big joke. Amazing Race! Amazing to who? Only the Americans? Give the rest of the world a CHANGE. You are going all over the world. Have an international competition. In rugby we're the world champs, in soccer we'll never make it. Amazing Race, we will kill you!

I was just wondering, how come if this race is not for non-US residents but they are allowed to roam around the world?? Let them run around within the US.... this is so not fair.. please can someone talk to the producers and also make it for non-US residents, atleast if one of the partner is from the US????

mail me @

Based on the finale of last season, all of us are excited for this upcoming season!

I think that there should be some sort of american/canadian amazing race that competes with eachother..if they can give a million dollars away at the end of the show they shouldnt have a problem making some changes to let people from other countries to enter. If i understand it correctly many times ive watched the show and theres people that have came from all around america, canada isnt to far for a little change.

Just a note to all who question why you need to be a us citizen to qualify for the amazing race. At customs, they treat different passports differently, as well as the us government wants the taxes that they get from the 1 million dollar prize. (If a foreigner wins, no taxes for uncle sam.)

Get some producers in your country to get together w/ the AR producers and come up w/ one for your country. There are a lot of countries that have their own amazing races going on.

I really want to apply w/ my hubby - he is a german citizen living here in hawaii, but we can not until he gets his citizenship.

My soon to be husband is American, does that count? I had not been planning to apply for American citizenship after the wedding. I am a Ugandan who has been living in England forever.

Any chance they would do a show with just Aussie Contestants... we watch it and love it but are not illegiable to apply as we are not U.S. Citizens. Yet we are devoted and wish we could be a part of it.

Any chance CBS will seek contestants from other countries?? or do a version with international contestants.

Well well well...looks like there's an ocean of devoted & dedicated amazing race fans in Canada. I'm no exception, and I can't help putting in my two cents.

#1) I would love there to be a Canadian version of the show but there is a big difference between the production budget of an American show that has been running for almost ten years drawing 10 million American viewers per episode + the money they must get for licensing the show out to hundreds of cable shows around the world, and a Canadian budget aimed at drawing in the 2.5 million or so Canadians who tune in to watch Amazing Race...less money means less amazing. It just wouldn't be the same, especially if Phil wasn't hosting it.

#2) quit whining about the American Citizen rules. I've done a lot of travelling and while I question the degree of difference a Canadian vs. American passport would make in the running of the race itself by the contestents, I definitely think behind the scenes stuff like the legal issues and paperwork etc. could be considerably more complicated than people can grasp and not worth the headache for producers who already run a very challenging tv program with plenty of wonderful applicants to choose from

#3) I am love with this show and pls will u email me quikly to tell me when is deadline and print form for me and write for me because i hav no hands and need million dollars to pay for robot hands i hav audition video and will make ratings go high pls pls.

I am watching The Amazing Race and noticed a pop up on a commercial break that there is a casting call in Saugus MA. On Nov. 12. My sister and I will definitely be there as we have talked about doing this together since it aired almost 10 yrs ago. Is there anything else we need to do in preparation for the show in advance of the casting, or do we simply show up?!

What has been anyone's experience with the application process? After submission how long has it been until you hear from producers for interview? any info on process is appreciated

this thread is old, but (in case you read it) I wonder - do you have any update to your advice regarding the Amazing Race application process? Has anything changed/got more detailed?

And as for the actual preparation for the race - what would you consider the most important?

not sure you'll see this, but will remain hopeful (both for your reply and for the race application
