"The Practical Nomad" Kindle Edition (e-book for Kindle, iPhone, or iPod Touch)

The Practical Nomad: How to Travel Around the World” is now available as a Kindle Edition e-book that you can download and read on your Kindle, iPhone, or iPod Touch. The Kindle edition contains the complete text of the most recent (4th edition, 2007) print edition of the book.

As I discussed in my earlier announcement, this isn’t an ideal solution, but I’m nonetheless pleased to be able to offer “The Practical Nomad” in electronic form. I hope to have a better e-book offering for the content of the next print edition, but don’t hold your breath: That won’t be until sometime in 2011.

I wasn’t directly involved in converting the files for the Kindle Edition. Please let me know if you have any ideas about how the formatting could be improved in future versions.

If you’ve read the “The Practical Nomad” and liked it — regardless of whether you read it in print or as an e-book, and regardless of whether you bought it, got it as a gift, or borrowed it from a library — I would be grateful if you would post a review on It’s a long story, but some time ago an organization that disagreed politically with something I wrote (not in, and not directly related to, any of my books) organized their supporters to post negative reviews of my books on, resulting in several extremely critical reviews from people who I have reason to suspect have never even read my books, and in ratings for my books on significantly lower than anywhere else. This is now especially significant because the new Kindle Edition is available only through So if you found my books useful, please let other potential readers know by posting a review even if it’s a brief one. Many thanks!

Congratulations on the book, what a great achievement. I haven't read it yet but plan to and I will gladly post a review then. Love your blog.

I love to read books based on travels, but I am not much into e-books. I shall read this one. I would like to congratulate you for this success. I will also ask my friends to read your book.

"Don't believe anything just because you read it on the Internet. Anyone can say anything on the Internet, and they do. The Internet is the most effective medium in history for the rapid global propagation of rumor, myth, and false information." (From The Practical Nomad Guide to the Online Travel Marketplace, 2001)
